It was a founding premise of Fast Company: In business, design matters. A glimpse inside Nike or Apple Computer at the time was enough to confirm that design was becoming a vital part of competitive advantage. But business magazines of the day didn't reflect that sensibility. They were gray, stodgy, and, well, uncool. Fast Company was something different.
